Judy Dyble + King Crimson

バンド King Crimson の曲 "I Talk to the Wind" はずっと残る名曲の一つだと思うが、彼らのデビュー・アルバムに収録される前、別の歌手 Judy Dyble の歌で Giles, Giles & Fripp （この内の二人がKing Crimson のデビュー・アルバム・メンバー）のアルバム "The Brondesbury Tapes" (1968)に収録されたことはファンにはよく知られた事実だ。

イギリスの BBC 放送による "The Brondesbury Tapes" のアルバム・レヴューでは Judy Dyble が「評価されていないのは犯罪的ですらある」（Chris Jones、 2002年）とされている。Judy Dybleはイギリスのバンド Fairport Conventionの初代ヴォーカリストだった。

Judy Dyble自身はネットでの投稿で「King Crimson が生まれる過程に関われて誇りに思う」と語っている。以下がその投稿の原文だ。これもファンには知られていることだが、Judy Dyble が当時の相棒 Ian McDonald と一緒に、ミュージシャン募集を新聞に出していなければ King Crimson が生まれていなかったわけだ。歴史はいつも面白い。

"Ian McD and I were looking for other musicians to work with, we advertised, and met up with Peter and Mike Giles and Robert Fripp, This song was one of the many that we recorded together in the front room of the flat GG& F were renting to see what we sounded like together and to get a feel for each other's music. For various reasons,I decided not to continue, and later Peter Giles bowed out. Then they added Greg, not as a replacement for me or as a substitute, but as bass-playing vocalist and lo! KC was born.
